  Maintains a downbeat ambience that is easy to lose and has been lost so often elsewhere. Also features a wall mounted mosaic, yes, mosaic. How many pubs can boast that?

  Lovely traditional pub on bustling St James Street. Has a blue plaque outside as it was the first venue in the UK to serve Tuaca! If you don't know what that is, I'd suggest giving it a try. Get all kept ales on at all times, this selection of lager and ciders in both tap and in bottles. Lovely friendly staff in a traditional pub atmosphere with an eclectic range of customers. Sadly not very wheelchair friendly due to the layout (toilets are downstairs) but I've seen people carry someone down there before. They didn't even know each other as far as I could tell!
  That's the sort of "can do" attitude I love here.
